Ranbir Kapoor’s Roy-
Roy is a romantic Thriller directed by debutante director Vikramjit Singh. Ranbir Kapoor returns on Big Screen after 11 Month post his disastrous outing Besharam.  The movie also stars Jacqueline Fernandez  and Arjun Rampal in important roles. Ranbir Kapoor plays a thief in the film.
Shahid Kapoor’s Haider-
Haider  directed by Vishal Bhardwaj is based on Shakespeare’s play Hamlet.  This is Vishal Bhardwaj’s 3rdattempt to make a movie based on Shakespeare’s play, other two being- Omkara (Othello)  and Maqbool (Macbeth). The movie also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon and Tabu in pivotal roles.
Let us discuss in detail about the positives and negatives each film
Positives-
  • Roy-
Ranbir Kapoor proved that he is capable of making his movie open with huge number courtesy Besharam and Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani. By the time Roy releases it will be long time since people would have seen Ranbir Kapoor on big screen so that would act as an advantage for the movie. The basic plot of the movie looks very interesting and it features Jacqueline Fernandez in double role. People are aware of the movie as the poster of the movie was released long ago.  The music of Roy is by ever dependable Pritam and we all know how big the music of  his last collaboration with Ranbir, Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani became.
  • Haider-
Shahid Kapoor returns on big screen after his successful venture R…Rajkumar. He will be carrying the goodwill of his previous successful film. Last Shahid Kapoor worked with Vishal Bharadwaj was in Kaminey which got great critical acclaim and did decently well at the box office. The movie is based on Hamlet and hence it is sure to have a powerful story line. The music of Haider is by Vishal Bhardwaj who has delivered a lot of soulful as well as popular tracks in past.  The new look of Shahid Kapoor is already generating good  buzz for the movie. The movie has an extremely powerful ensemble cast
Negatives-
  • Roy-
Roy would mainly cater the multiplex audience and it will hardly have anything in it for the mass much like Aamir Khan’s  Taalash . Ranbir Kapoor will be coming off straight from Besharam, the only prominent black spot in his otherwise enviable filmography. It is difficult for a debutante director to direct a Romantic Thriller as it will requires huge amount of expertise  to keep the audience glued on the screen. The movie needs to be presented very well to do the trick for it.
  • Haider-
Like Roy even Haider would cater mainly to the multiplex audiences. The movie has a dark subject and is a tragic love story. The audience for the movie will be selective as people in India are not used to dark themed movies. Vishal Bharadwaj after Kaminey has failed to deliver a commercially successful film and he would be a having a lot of pressure upon him to not let down Shahid Kapoor who is returning after an out and out commercial entertainer film which is also his biggest hit.
Which film has a edge over the other  and Why ?
Both Roy and Haider have the same target audience i.e the high end multiplex audience and hence to find any takers in the market, the first promo as well as the movie need to be very well made to create excitement amongst the audiences. Both films look similar to be quite similar as Haider has better buzz whereas Roy has a bigger star. The final verdict of the movies however will depend on the content only. As of now there is no big movie releasing in the month of September and hence the opening of the movie won’t make much difference as the better movie will cover up for  the low opening numbers in long run. Though it is too early to comment on the fate of these movies but this was just early analysis on them.
P.S :- Even Anushka Sharma’s debut production NH10, a thriller is also releasing on 12th September ,201
